There. I said it. Kaiba is awesome.

Kaiba is one of the ever-so-rare series I label that glorious adjective with. It’s 2am on a working day morning, and having just consumed this awesome show’s 9th episode (I just couldn’t stop after the 8th), I caved and am now writing this silly fanboy entry you all have your eyes on. It can’t be helped. Kaiba is awesome.

“I know it’s tough when someone stares from behind when you’re half-naked but I’m a fan and fans do stupid things like that… why the concerned face?”

Why exactly is Kaiba awesome? For a couple of reasons, most of which I will reflect upon in an end-of-series review which I defenitely will write, but here are some relevant to the purpose of this entry:

  • Kaiba is my answer from the Great Consciousness for a ‘The Little Prince’ anime — This is awesome and lends weight to the existence of the Great Consciousness in general (other benevolent acts performed by the Great Consciousness include laying a two-dollar note on the floor when I was hungry and penniless in my third year of secondary school and running dry my mobile phone’s battery when I’m blowing my cash on beer and my mother doesn’t like it when I’m blowing my cash on beer).
  • Kaiba has very little melodrama; it doesn’t waste time showing a visual representation of ‘trauma’, allowing viewers to dictate for themselves how they should feel about a situation, and not suggest how the viewer ’should’ feel — Extremely awesome.
  • Kaiba’s creators actually bothered to create an array of unique character designs for every significant character which has appeared so far, even for those which don’t reappear in subsequent episodes — Out of this world!
  • Kaiba tries to be relatively original… and succeeds! — KA-POW! ZING! BURURURURURR!

All these factors combined with splendid visuals, sound and direction make for an awesome anime. Kaiba’s ability to engage me fully is aptly represented in this picture below:

“Baby, you ain’t match against my Technicolor aura of love.”

PS. Did I mention Kaiba is awesome?
