
In the world of Ef, God is an artist. God is egotistical and has eyes which see happiness as sunlight and anger as thunder. He breaks parts of himself off his gingerbread body and shapes them into mini-breadmen in his world. He smiles when he realises that we cannot fully appreciate his work without first understanding, to an extent, him. It is his masterpiece, about himself, for himself. This man is a reason why I’ve come to love Madhouse as a studio. He glorifies blood, insanity and beheadings with a grin on his face and a Cuban in his mouth. Thankfully, he also brings back meditation, the voice of the world and everything else lost in modern censored society and its equally disturbing lack of time.

And thus ends one of the most captivating and original series of last season. Kaiba didn’t end as I had expected, but it did tie up loose ends as well as it could. It was a great ride. I’ll probably write something longer when I have the time.

In a world where Asimov’s 3 Rules are as real as the constitution, humans take robots for granted. And robots, like the serveants and slaves of times long passed, eat their master’s treatment without a bitten lip. Robots are society’s new babysitters, dangerous environment workers and, unsurprisingly, surrogates to one’s lost love ones, albeit really bad ones.
Catch is, they’re capable of doing much better—if only their masters allowed them too.
